The First Annual " Illuminate the Unisphere in Pink and Blue for Autism Awareness Month ".
The Unisphere in Flushing Meadows park was lit- up to turned to pink and blue to raise Autism awareness month yesterday, April 1st. The weather was not very cooperative, so all the activities were moved to the Queens Musuem of Art on the 2nd floor. There were arts and crafts for the children, resources and some inspirational key note speakers who were very passionate about in helping families affected by this nervous disorder. All this efforts were the idea of a wonderful parent whose little girl has ASD. She was joined by some amazing people who are advocates in helping children with special needs especially for those who are under the Autism Spectrum Disorder. We, as a family went there to support this cause and to help raise awareness of Autism in the community. This is for my little guy who is very special in his own way :) |

The Angry Birds of Queens!
The Angry birds birthday theme.
My son loves to play the Angry Birds games on the Ipad. He asked me, if we could have these birds over to celebrate his birthday which was 2 weeks ago. So, I started doing my research or also known as pinning in at my Pinterest board. I did find a lot of inspiring and DIY ideas by surfing the interenet. I got the a lot of ideas and how-to instructions from my cupcakes from these amazing mommies in Craftingchicks.com |
My second batch of angry birds cupcakes for his school party! |
My first batch was a hit. It was not the perfect replica of the angry birds but my son was very thankfull for all the effort I had done to make his birthday more fun! I bought all his angry birds paper plates, napkins and paper cups from partycity.com for half off the regular price. Lucky me :) |

Goody bags for all! |
Most of the items that I had used here were locally bought around my neighborhood. I can say check out your local discount stores (99 Cents store) for solid color plates for your arts and crafts ideas. I also bought some colored napkins and basic colored utensils to mixed up with my Angry bird theme. You will be amazed on how many stuff you could find in these stores. I went to my neighborhood Target branch here in Queens for the paper bags it cost me only less than $5 for a 40 pieces of colored paper bags. They come in white, red, blue and brown. I made most of my cup cakes from scratch but i did bought the food coloring, colored sprinkles, and sugar free icing from the Target store to make it more manageable for me to create a good amount of Angry birds cupcakes.

Filipino Fast Food in Woodside,NY
Our all time favorite bee, Jollibee. I learned to love this mascot while growing up in the Philippines. Actually my daughter shared the same love that I have with this place back home. Our favorite food was the palabok. Jollibee always reminded her of her birthday parties that takes place during her grade school year when she was still living there a few years ago. And I, for always making me feel at home again.
The Jollibee fried chicken can be also be served with rice. Only here you can find that. They also served burgers and classic traditional filipino breakfast which consisted of rice of course.

If you are tired of eating those apple pies.
Try this Banana Langka (Jackfruit) Pie.
The combination of the ripe sweet bananas
and the aromatic smell of the Langka (Jackfruit)
makes it even more sweeter.
They also have the peach mangoe pie
which is another hit in this fast food reataurant.
Red Ribbon Bake Shop
Another all time favorite Filipino place. They have a variety of classic traditional breads including the famous Filipino bun also known as pandesal. They also come in whole wheat, making it more appealing to the health conscious customers.
Ensaimada, a pastry bread. This breadis soft, topped with sugar and cheese. What's not to love about that:)
But if you are looking for a different kind of tasteful cakes. They make the most delicious mango cake, purple yams cake ( ube cake), pandan cake with young coconut fillings.

Thrifty yet trendy
It was beautiful sunnny day, it was a good day to go out and explore the neighborhoods. Since the kids were out of school for the winter recess break. I decided to tag them along to my quite addicting hobby , which is thrift shop shopping. Every one was on board and was very excited to the idea. I found this 2 great thrift store in Astoria. What I love about this stores are that they are only a few blocks a way from each other. It was easy for me to walk and go to the next thrift store if ever I did not find any intereresting old or new treasures that I consider a rare find and just a good steal from the rest.
The Goodwill store has been replaced Steinway Thrift Shop. |
This goodwill store was newly opened. You can find most of their items brand new and still in there original packages. You can notice that most of their items came from a major retail store. If your are still looking for those Missoni pumps and maybe some few Missoni items, that cause madness in this store last fall. You might to want to visit this goodwill store. |
